My Big Fat Greek...Easter?

Easter in Greece...What an experience!

Elias and his family had us over to their beautiful cottage home in Saronida, a suburb of Athens. His cousin picked us up, along with her mother and husband.  She spoke English pretty well and was very sweet and friendly!  Her mother said a few words in English and was so adorable.  She was out until 4am last night.  We are really slacking!!  It took about an hour to get to the house, but the drive was magnificent.  Nothing could compare to the beautiful blue water.  It is almost surreal...I really would love to live here one day.

Everyone was beyond friendly at the house.  They welcomed us with open arms...literally!  They took us to see the lamb right away.  It smelled delicious!  We talked with a few people who knew English and had some wine.  Almost everyone that walked by touched my hair and patted my shoulders.  It was really adorable.  The men were all downstairs on the lawn talking about politics and fighting.  I found it so funny!  The women stayed out of the conversation and complained that they only discuss politics or athletics!

Then, we got to sample some lamb! I probably tried it in the states and hated it when I didn't eat much, but oh my goodness this was delicious!  They had a lot of other food as well.  Not too sure what everything was, but I loved it all.  I did try loukaniko, some sausage dish, and a few different types of cheese pies.  The Greek salad was out of this world like usual.  The view from the cottage was magnificent as well.  One side, you could see the mountains and on the other, the ocean.  I want a house just like that one day!

Right after dinner came the desserts.  I was so so full, so I just had some really good almond cookie and some ice cream.  After dessert, two of the older ladies wanted to go flower picking so we went with them.  It was like a race!  They were jetting off to clip the pretty yellow flowers.  One of them gave Danielle the knife and had her cut them for her and she just kept yelling things in Greek and we had no idea what was going on.  I was cracking up the whole time, especially when she held Danielle's hand!  It was hyserical!!

Then, Elias' mom, Margarita, took us down by the sea.  It was so so beautiful.  I am one lucky duck!

We hung around a bit more and then two other older ladies were heading back to Piraeus, so we caught a ride with them.  This was quite an experience as well...let's just say my seatbelt was on very tight!  Almost everyone who drove by looked at our car and we did get a few beeps as well.  Oh boy!  We did make it back safe and sound to our hotel and took a nap for an hour.  The Greeks are tiring us out!  We have an early morning tomorrow to catch our ferry to Mykonos!  I cannot wait to lay in the sun! :)

A random sidenote: we noticed that almost everyone blesses themselves three times when they drive past a church.  It is really something.  I feel like Greece is one of the few places in the world where everyone shares a common religion.

I also really wish I spoke Greek!  It was very different not understanding anything that was going on.  Usually in France I atleast have some idea what's going on..
A bunch of people we met today knew a bunch of languages.  I am truly jealous!

Not sure that I will have wifi in Mykonos, so will update when I can!  Je vous aime!
