Greetings from Rome! But first, let's backtrack to Mykonos...
Yesterday was another gorgeous day in Mykonos! We hung on the beach for a while and then took a trip into town for lunch. I had a Greek salad and spinach pie! Yum! We stopped at a frozen yogurt place called YogArt for some mastic fro yo. It tasted good, but afterwards I did not feel so well. Either the chocolate rice mixed in bother my acid reflux or there was too much soy in it. Who knows! So basically we hung out the rest of the afternoon on the beach, grabbed some pizza for dinner, (even though we'll be eating tons of pizza in Italy) and I fell asleep pretty early because my stomach hurt very badly.
Our hotel had a shuttle that took us to the airport this morning...if you'd even call it an airport! It was so so so tiny! We walked into one part of it first and it looked SO deserted. I was getting quite nervous...then we realized we were in arrivals. We headed over to the right section but still, it was ridiculously empty! I had to check my bag since it was over the weight limit, but luckily they didn't charge me! I don't think I will be so lucky for the next two flights, but oh well! Gotta do what you gotta do!
Our flight surprisingly took off on time and was one of the fastest flights I've ever been on! They surprisingly still served drinks and peanuts...lost out on that one! We arrived at Athens and had to wait quite awhile for our flight to Rome. We grabbed sandwiches at a little food place and sat there for quite a while. We headed up to McDonalds for cheap coffee and sat there until our gate was announced. Then, we had to sit again!
Plane went rather quickly! We arrived in Rome and took a 4euro bus to the city center. It took about an hour with a bit of traffic and we waited in line to get our train tickets for Florence. After a bit, we just used the self service machines and figured it out ourselves. We took the metro to the stop nearby our little apartment and a young boy on a scooter came to meet us since the owner couldn't make it. It seemed like it was out of a movie! We took the bus over and we have the cutest little place! It is so homey! We were starving since we barely ate all day so we stopped at a restaurant down the street from our place. It was definitely authentic Italian because they didn't have an English menu. It was so great! We got two different kinds of bread with a parmesan cheese spread. Then, I had some pasta with tomatoes and prosciutto. It was wondeful! What a great first night in Romaaaa!
Much love! Ciao
