Happy Greek Easter everyone!
Yesterday, we met up with Natassa's cousin, George, who showed us all around Piraeus and Athens! It was really great :) We went back over by the Acropolis, but it closed early due to the holiday. Then, it started to pour! It was the most beautiful day right before that. Atleast the rain didn't last too long, though. We headed up to a big mountain that has an outdoor theater and a church up top. But even better, it had a 360 degree view of Athens and the surrounding areas! So beautiful. We stopped for coffee at a hotel that also had a great view of the Acropolis! Wondeful day!
When Danielle and I got back, we walked down by the port to find something opened for dinner. We ate at a cute little place called Bouboulina. I had spinach pie and a Greek salad! Surprisingly, there was no cheese in the spinach pie. It was still great, though! And with this Greek salad for dinner, I am pretty sure I ate about 9 tomatoes! Tomatoes seem to be equilvalent to our lettuce at home. No lttuce in the real Greek salads...just tons and tons of tomatoes! After dinner, the waiter brought us some lemon ice with honey and sprinkles on the house! Don't know how we pulled that one of...probably for just being so darn cute! ;)
George picked us up again around 11:30 to take us to his apartment so we could watch the Easter festivites! Everyone lights fireworks/firecrackers on the streets and it sounds like bombs are going off everywhere! We were a bit nervous so we stayed far up on the roof :) I took a video, so once I have my actual computer, I will post it! We had some Chios Mastic cinnamon liquor. It tasted just like Big Red chewing gum! Yum! At midnight, we had an egg fight and I surprisingly won! We took a ride down by the sea again and then called it a night around 2/3am. The Greeks were just going out then as well. Us boring Americans....
We are leaving in a few minutes for Natassa's friend's house for a Greek Easter celebration! It should be a wondeful experience :)
