Our last morning in Rome was quiet. We slept in a bit, got ready to leave, and took a trip to the market. It was similar to the French open air markets, but it was inside. We got some cheese, flat bread, and wine for the train to Florence since we saved money by taking a longer one. It was a really nice market, but hard to order things since we don't know any Italian. Most of the people didn't speak English either, so we did a lot of pointing. It worked though! We walked around a bit more outside and found a little place for grab and go pizza. I ordered the one with the ham on it by accident, but it was still good. We headed over to the train station a bit early since we forgot the exact time of our train. It's really funny that Rome only has 2 metro lines! Paris has over 14! I guess it's a small enough city to get by with only 2.
We had a long ride to Florence, but it worked out well. We took a cab to Matt's house here and I was so surprised how nice his flat is! It is in such a central location and HUGE! It was great to see Fairfield friends :)
We went out to dinner at a place called Yellow Bar. It was delicious, like usual. Can't ever go wrong with Italian food! And after, gelato! They said its the best gelato in Florence! I had nutella and cookies 'n cream all for 1.80euro! Paris kills me. We headed back to the flat to get ready to go out, but hours from when we actually got back. They don't ever leave before midnight! Needless to say, we had a long night. Didn't sleep until 4am! It was so worth it and I had a great time with good people!
It was supposed to rain all day today, but only poured very early! Lucky for us :). We walked the wrong way of course, but found a little place for pizza and cannolis! YUM. My favorite! Then, we headed over to the Duomo! It was gorgeous! I liked it way better than Notre Dame! We climbed up it too. Goodness, it was such a rough climb though. It had very narrow and steep steps...463 of them! Once we got to the top, it was all worth the effort. It was the most beautiful 360 view of Florence ever. I can't wait to post all the pictures. The bad part of being up there, though, was we had to walk down...it wasn't too terrible, I guess!
We walked over to Ponte Vecchio and on the way, saw a lot of other cool squares and sculptures. Italy just has so much character! Ponte Vecchio is the cutest bridge I've ever seen! We walked around that area and stopped for lunch. Raviolis this time!
After, we aimlessly walked around taking in the beautiful sites of Firenze. It was a wondeful day. We got a bit lost, but found our way back to the flat! Then, we walked to get more gelato! I had strawberry and passion fruit this time. We headed over to the river again and found a cute wine bar/restaurant so we had a glass of wine and got free appetizers! It must be a thing in Italy. Super cute!
Tomorrow hopefully we'll see the David and the inside of the Duomo!
Ciao ciao!
