Yesterday, we went on a walking tour of the city around 5pm. The sights are breathtaking. We didn't focus on any tourist attractions, but we walked and talked for over two hours. Who says I need to join a gym when the whole city is right in front of my feet! Since our tour guide was tired at the end (but in reality, we were late for dinner and very far away) we took the metro back. What an experience. It was so crowded and everyone was in such a rush. I felt like I was in NYC with all the hustle and bustle. When we finally made it to the restaurant, wine and bread was on our table. What could be better?
The food was exceptional as well. We all had a chicken dish with potatoes. And then came dessert....oh la la le gateau de chocolat! I have never had chocolate more rich than French chocolate. Delicious. After dinner, a few of us stopped at a supermarket to buy some wine to drink for the night. We visited a few other rooms and all hung out, but called it a pretty early night due to being awake for 30+ hours.
Today started off with a delicious breakfast! Crepes, bread, cheese, fruit, nutella (since there is no peanut butter here, YAY) , and of course croissants were served. Can you say yum?! After breakfast, we took the metro to class and got a tour of our building. It's very quaint and was surprisingly bigger inside than I thought. We had a lot on the agenda for the day, yet again. We had an opening lecture where we went around introducing ourselves and then had a break for pizza and exploring our surroundings! The pizza was very different, but not bad. After our lunch break, we had to go get our new phones (which was a long long long process...but only cost me 25 euros!) and we also got our metro cards so we can get around the city. When we got back to school, we had two more lectures and then were off to les bateaux mouches, but casually on our way, we happened to be right by the Eiffel Tower. It was breathtaking. There are absolutely no other words to describe it. Since it was dusk, the tower lit up at 6 and every now and then would sparkle. We saw this beautiful view from La Seine on a boat. Can life be any better? I think NOT.
The boat trip was much longer than expected, but it was very nice. We went up and down La Seine, taking in the beautiful sights right before our eyes. After that, we were on our own for the night. We somehow made it back to the Bastille (which is close to our hotel) and we were trying to find a restaurant, but we didn't know where to go. Our group split up, and Danielle and I decided to go into a little bar resturant place. It was very different from home being that when we walked in, there was no hostess stand. So I decided we should walk up these steps because there were seats up there and I saw a computer. When we went up there, we saw a waitress but she didn't seem to notice us...so my brilliant idea was to just sit down. Little did we know, we sat down at a table where there was a check waiting for the waitress, (luckily it was paid already...) so these people thought we were complete idiots. We decided to order expensive mojitios and a small appetizer, but the waitress took our menus away without asking for our food. We decided to find a different place after our drinks came since we felt like idiots. The only good thing that happened was we found out it was happy hour and our drinks were half price! winning :)
We ended up grabbing panini at this little place on a corner. The man was very friendly and told us that he wanted to come to the United States and marry Britney Spears. He then asked us our names and told us his name was James, James Bond. He was a character. Who says the Parisians aren't friendly?
Apres le diner, we adventured around the city in what we thought was the direction of our hotel. But somehow, we ended up in the wrong arrondissement. It worked out fine, once we knew the general direction of our hotel and things started to look familiar. But along the way, we stopped for banana nutella crepes. Phenomenal :D
C'est tout pour maintenant!
